Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We have worked closely with our staff and volunteers to build a radical and ambitious new strategy, creating a powerful shared purpose, devolving decision-making much closer to local teams and communities and working through partnerships and alliances at all levels.

We are now looking for a Trustee to join us at this critical time to help us to deliver on our strategic ambitions. We are seeking applications from candidates who are motivated by and committed to our purpose with a passion for challenging social injustice. We are looking for individuals with strong governance skills and experience of senior leadership, as well as a proven record of significant achievement in your own field, ideally within a substantial or complex organisation, used to operating at a strategic level, confronting challenges and facilitating initiatives. We also seek individuals with a broad range of influencing and enabling skills, who display keen judgement, and give evidence of facilitating strategic transformation.

Our highest priority is to increase the diversity of background, experience and thinking represented by the Board so that we more closely reflect the communities we work with and are opened up to new perspectives. We are also specifically looking for one new trustee who understands the distinctive political and economic context in which our teams in Scotland operate and who would be prepared to join our Scotland Committee which has oversight of these services and generally meets in Edinburgh.
