Job Description

Chief Digital Officer (CDIO)

Key Tasks:

  • Plan and implement significant business and cultural changes across the organisation, introducing new processes and procedures to ensure that the agile, iterative development and operation of digital services for members is successful.
  • Act as a key adviser to the organisation's Senior Leadership Team, senior volunteer leadership team and Trustees on opportunities for the development of digital solutions to enhance the experience of Scouting for members
  • Act as a strong advocate and champion for digital solutions and approaches across the organisation supporting staff and volunteers through the process of identification and implementation of appropriate solutions to drive simplicity and efficiency
  • Plan and deliver digital programmes and projects within time and budget constraints across the organisation, engaging with key stakeholders, and with a particular focus on clearly articulating the roadmap from concept to benefits realisation
  • Plan and deliver inflight and new digital services in line with the organisation's established digital principles
  • Oversee the design, management and delivery of Information Technology resources and services to meet business needs and the requirements of the underlying infrastructure required for the delivery of digital transformation
  • Underpin the delivery and iteration of digital services with effective research and analysis of appropriate data and information to drive the improvement of services and increase efficiency across the organisation
  • Provide leadership to the Transformation Department ensuring that the unit has the right balance and mix of skills and abilities to deliver on the ambitions of the transformation programme
  • Oversee the procurement and contracting of suppliers ensuring that best practice is adhered to in the selection and management of suppliers to meet the needs of the organisation

The Successful Applicant

Chief Digital Officer (CDIO)

The Person:

  • Experience of developing technology transformation strategies and managing the delivery of associated technical services, solutions while balancing tight resource constraints, conflicting priorities and a dynamic programme
  • Experience of current agile project management practices, open source, cloud platforms and digital services
  • A high degree of market awareness, with demonstrable experience of innovative approaches to procuring services and of managing relationships with suppliers.
  • Experience of managing senior stakeholders, both internally and externally, and confidence in dealing with, and influencing, senior staff and volunteer colleagues, and producing clear and non-technical advice on complex issues
  • Awareness and understanding of industry standard security issues and processes

Skills and abilities:

  • Demonstrable and practical experience at a senior level of delivering transformational change to technologies and processes to deliver cost savings and service improvements to customers/members
  • Digitally literate and capable of effectively engaging with technical staff, suppliers and stakeholders to define the best approach to service design to achieve business/user objectives - detailed technical expertise is not essential, but the ability to manage developers and ask the right questions is a minimum requirement
  • Ability to develop excellent relationships with a wide range of senior stakeholders and technical experts, and to coordinate the delivery of complex and multi-faceted programmes
  • Ability to work under pressure and to respond quickly to changing circumstances and to tight timescales
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable successful influencing, listening and negotiating with others
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage and deliver a diverse workload and portfolio of programmes/projects whilst ensuring effective prioritisation and balancing of the needs of a range of stakeholders
