Single Homeless Project (SHP) is one of London’s leading homelessness prevention charities, a dynamic and growing organisation changing 8,000 lives every year - from supporting people in crisis to helping them take the final steps towards independence and employment.

Each day across all 32 London boroughs, our staff work with individuals to tackle the underlying causes of homelessness, such as poor mental health or drug and alcohol dependency.

Founded by a group of homeless people in the mid-1970s, more than 40 years on we still try to look at the world through our clients’ eyes, putting their needs and viewpoints at the centre of everything we do. Above all, we believe that, no matter what challenges they face, everyone we work with has the capacity to take control of their lives and shape their own futures.

We have a strong reputation with commissioners and within the care and support sector for the quality of the services we provide and are proud of the innovative and pioneering work we have done to improve the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in society.

We employ 450 staff across London, and have a turnover of c£23m, the majority of which is drawn from local authority contracts and from rents. Following investment in our fundraising team, we are diversifying income streams, with a small but increasing proportion of our funding drawn from corporates, trusts and foundations, and individual donors.

With homelessness at its highest level for a decade and cuts to public services affecting the most vulnerable, our work is needed more than ever. We want to scale up our work, deepen our impact and reach even more people.

Our current Chair is stepping down after a long period of service and we are now looking for a committed individual to help guide the charity through a time of exciting opportunity and development.

We are seeking an individual with experience as a senior leader in a large organisation, with significant experience of leading long term strategic development and driving financial sustainability. We need someone who can act as a passionate and persuasive advocate and ambassador for the organisation, with an instinctive grasp of our ethos and values and the ability to inspire staff, fellow trustees and stakeholders alike.

SHP is fully committed to equality of opportunity and diversity to ensure that we reflect the full breadth of the people we aim to support. We warmly welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates. However, as black and minority ethnic communities and women are under-represented on our board, we would particularly welcome applications from these groups.

You can find out more about the role, SHP and how to apply on our dedicated microsite by clicking on the Apply button.

Closing date: 9am, Wednesday 26 June 2019

Visit to services: 2nd or 3rd July 2019

Interview: 8 July 2019

SHP is IIP accredited and an equal opportunities employer.
