At the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) our mission is to improve outcomes for future generations everywhere and to support positive change across education systems. We do this by creating and sharing robust research and insights on education policy and practice, informing policymakers and other key decision makers, and strengthening practice in the classroom. As the UK’s leading independent provider of education research, we are a not-for-profit organisation, with an income of £20 million and 250 staff. Our expertise, long history, vast experience and pioneering methods have established our reputation as an authoritative, trusted and respected voice in education.

We now seek an outstanding Director of Operations to play a crucial role in ensuring NFER continues to make a positive difference to education, reporting directly to the Chief Executive. This individual will be responsible for the externally facing operational capability that underpins our research and assessment activity, working directly with schools and other research participants. S/he will lead the development of our Research and Product Operations (RPO) function which offers a combination of scale and quality that is unrivalled in the sector. RPO is one of NFER’s unique strengths, enabling us to provide an “end to end” approach to education research and assessment.

The new Director of Operations will be a strong team player with the strategic and operational leadership skills to contribute effectively and collaboratively as a key member of our high performing leadership team. Experience of leading teams delivering operational processes to support research and/or assessment is essential, as is strong commercial and financial acumen and a sound understanding of the importance of information security. S/he will have a passion for driving operational business transformation and a genuine resonance with the mission and aims of NFER.

NFER is an equal opportunities employer, welcoming applications from all sections of the community, and a registered charity (No 313392).
