Reporting to the Commercial Director, the Head of Strategy will play an integral part in shaping the overall strategy, creating long range plans and implementing the key strategic initiatives necessary to benefit the business.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Defining the customer journey and ensuring that it meets customer requirements whilst in line with required product performance
  • Leading the development of key commercial projects underpinning the strategic direction of the business
  • Leading the design, pricing, risk management and sourcing resulting in both approved new and amended products/services
  • Significant engagement across all levels of the business is therefore required in order to influence and direct a number of operational teams and senior stakeholders

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Leading the end to end strategic planning process for the business (encompassing the Medium Term and Annual Operating Plans) to deliver the future vision underpinned by a fully costed and aligned financial plan
  • Leading key strategic evaluations and strategic projects across the business, providing analysis and recommendations to senior level sponsors including the Executive Team
  • Develop full life-cycle product strategies to grow, maximise value and extend life
  • Engage with external parties to build and keep current market knowledge and to assess the opportunities and challenges of recent developments and future trends including digital
  • Regular monitoring of service performance, customer satisfaction, call survey results, complaints and breaches – root cause analysis and rectification of issues
  • Oversee the review and monitoring of product and service risks and performance, enabling the ongoing value of the product and proposition to be understood and optimised, including management of conduct risk
  • Work closely with the Senior Management team to ensure they operate as a cohesive team in order to effectively manage the performance of the company resulting in the swift resolution of any conflict

Experience Required:

  • MBA and/or other degree or professional qualification, or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrable experience of producing significant, impactful business strategy and leading project related activity
  • Extensive protection product experience and reinsurance experience
  • Proven track record of driving value and profitability
  • Highly credible with senior leaders, emotionally intelligent and innovative thinker
  • Strong business acumen and commercial experience including ability to create and lead engagement around key business cases to enable decision making
  • Ability to challenge and influence appropriately and effectively across a broad range of strategic topics and issues
  • Personal Impact: viewed as influential, trusted and credible. The ‘go-to’ person for your area of responsibility
  • Capability management – maximise people potential to deliver high team and organisational performance
  • Ability to cut through complexity and deliver synthesised and compelling recommendations based upon sound reasoning and judgement
  • Capability to create, lead and direct senior matrix teams with some not necessarily with line management control
