The Client
Our client is a profitable, liquid, family-owned Group of companies, its core business being the B-to-B distribution of goods in the UK, Eire and France. Group turnover is in excess of £35m per annum and with access to capital they have a platform for future growth (both organically and by acquisition), the challenge being to achieve that overall growth while ensuring the continued stability and ongoing profitability of the individual businesses. They are currently seeking to recruit an incisive, commercial Group Finance Director to help to optimise profitability, cash generation and operational performance, whilst also playing a key role in enabling the Group to achieve its strategic goals.
The Role
Reporting to the Chairman and working closely with the senior management of all subsidiaries, the successful candidate will be a key member of the executive team with diverse responsibilities which include:
- Responsibility for the administrative, financial, and risk management operations of all businesses within the Group
- Providing strategic financial analysis and advice
- Leading and developing the finance teams within the Group
- Maintaining tight financial controls across the Group
- Ensuring that accurate, timely management information is provided
- Taking a lead role in budgeting and forecasting processes
- Developing performance measures
- Working capital and cash management
- Overseeing the Group’s transaction processing systems
- Developing business processes
- Ensuring consistency of approach on HR matters across the Group companies
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements of all statutory bodies
The Candidate
Prospects will be qualified Accountants with a proven track record and good commercial experience already gained in industry, preferably within a fast-moving, dynamic, distribution business. Process improvement is a key area of the role and candidates must be skilled at analysing business objectives and finding ways of streamlining and improving business processes. As well as sound cash flow and cash management experience, candidates will have a hands-on, commercial focus, excellent communication and strong IT skills.
