Job Summary

As a manager and leader, you will translate the strategy into action, executing relevant plans brilliantly and viewed as the 'go to' person for Client and Core services.

Head of systems engineering manages and leads the core service and client engineering team globally. You have accountability in terms of cost, people management, the quality of the team's outputs/solutions and devising its technology direction. You are technically proficient and are focused on building a team that builds and supports the technical work in the most efficient and optimal manner. You plan, manage and monitor strategic multi-year initiatives and are focused on a user-centric solution that makes every day easier for our colleagues.

Your solutions affect over 500,000 colleagues who rely on client technologies to do their job on a daily basis. The team leads the strategy from the Windows 10 Deployment across the head office to Multi-Purpose Computers, Till builds and handheld devices management in store. The breadth of the role is truly unique and encompasses all the components that you would expect to support such a large workforce

Systems Overview:

  • SCCM
  • Casper
  • Citrix (VDI and app virtualisation) \ VMWare Horizon
  • Mobile Device Management (SOTI & Intune)
  • SCOM
  • Window and Mac
  • Client monitoring solution such as Nexthink\ Uber Agent or Splunk

Services:

  • Build Management, software delivery and security updates
  • Regular build releases and enhancements based on Splunk data to ensure we proactively manage the estate.

Experience at optimising teams to deliver solutions to complex problems at pace is key.
Wider knowledge of workplace platforms such as Active Directory and Office 365 Service such as Teams, Email and SharePoint is also ideal.
In this job, you will;

  • Manage the activities of members of the systems engineering job family,
  • Have the ability to step up and represent Workplace Technology Globally and deputise for my manager
  • Ensure operational stability is balanced with engineering and roadmap delivery
  • building a team culture for continuous improvement and environment where engineers want to work. I will recruit and support the development of members of staff.
  • Ensure my team meets the required quality standards, commitments and objectives as defined in the acceptance criteria and definitions of done for all tasks undertaken.
  • Drives adoption of new tools and techniques being able to understand their value and impact.
  • Build a team with structure and capabilities to support incidents in live and support the relationship to Engineering.
  • Keep my technical skills up to date and keep track of new technologies, processes, understanding how they might benefit the Technology team and wider business.
  • Manage team performance and improve capabilities by defining training plans, objectives, providing feedback
  • Managing external suppliers and responsible for measuring, improving the service provided. • Managing stakeholder communication and escalations.
  • Represent the Infrastructure/systems department across all of Technology. Ensure that right changes are approved and implemented by the team in production systems.
  • Work closely with the Workplace Technology product team to ensure data-based decision are made to drive roadmaps and colleagues outcomes.

Package:

  • Salary: Approx £100-120k
