Role synopsis
Reporting to the VP Group Talent & Learning, the Head of Assessment is responsible for leading, developing and executing the strategic assessment requirements for the organisation across all disciplines and functions.
This role is responsible for developing a robust roadmap which has the flexibility to adapt to business requirements across all levels, businesses and geographies in order to provide an innovative and customer centric assessment process for our new joiners and internal candidates alike. The role will also focus on ensuring future success and driving modern, innovative and leading-edge practices in assessment.

The role will also focus on ensuring future success and driving modern, innovative and leading-edge practices in assessment.
Key accountabilities
- Accountable for developing and driving the assessment strategy for the company
- Manage a small team, providing leadership and guidance and developing their capability to enable them to deliver business priorities
- Define assessment standards, guidance and criteria for volume, specialist and senior roles across all functions and disciplines with a focus on evolving skill-sets e.g. digital
- Ensure that all assessment approaches are inclusive, free of bias and are supportive of our D&I ambitions. Use analytics to determine potential for adverse impact
- Project manage new assessment design ensuring that projects are prioritised and implemented with high quality, high value and at pace
- Review assessment campaigns and conduct validation studies to ensure assessments are predictive of performance in roles
- Work with internal and external partners to measure and analyse feedback in order to continuously improve assessment programmes
- Lead the design of assessment centres to support early careers and programmatic hiring ensuring design meets requirements
- Create assessment tools that are relevant for both passive and active candidates, ensuring 'design for experience' for all candidate types
- Develop networks of technical and assessment professionals, internal and external to the organisation, to bring forth best practices and learning to continuously drive excellence in assessment
- Proactively share market insight into developing trends to educate others and drive more modern, innovative assessment approaches companywide to ensure future capability and diversity requirements are met
- Provide targets and metrics to track success of programmes, including insights on candidate experience and implement continuous review and improvement
- Partner with Talent Acquisition, HRIS and Group Talent teams to ensure assessment programs integrate and align with broader people processes and HR deliverables to unlock human energy and deliver a talent pool of high performing, engaged and motivated employees and external candidates
Essential experience and job requirements
- Proven expertise in selection and assessment tools and methodologies and sophisticated understanding of current and emerging assessment approaches e.g. immersive assessment, virtual reality, AI, gamification
- Strong change management skills and evidence of driving significant assessment change initiatives globally across multiple job types
- Experience of leading and developing a team of assessment professionals
- Experience of sourcing the most innovative suppliers and managing supplier relationships and performance in line with global contracts
- Highly motivated with a passion for assessment and a commitment to continuous improvement and assessment 'design for experience'
- Ability to learn the business quickly and succeed in a complex, highly matrixed environment through influence and the building of effective relationships at all levels within the organisation
- Digital mindset and fluency across multiple assessment tools
Desirable criteria and qualifications
- BPS Level A & B (Test user Occupational & Ability)
- Business Psychologist (ideally Occupational Psychology) to MSc level
- Chartered status or equivalent PhD
- Experience of managing a budget
