Chief Financial Officer

bpha

Six figure salary plus competitive benefits package

Bedford

bpha is a housing association which owns >18,000 homes and has operations that span the arc between Oxford and Cambridge. We currently have an exceptional opportunity for a new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who will report direct to the Chief Executive. This is a rare chance for a high quality and dynamic finance leader to join an organisation at the cutting edge of a sector which is going through significant change. We are a progressive Housing Association with a clear vision, strong leadership and ambitious growth plans and as CFO you will have a real opportunity to shape and drive the organisation as we enter the next stage of our development.

Based in Bedford, bpha now employs 400 people, has an annual turnover in excess of £120m and a development programme that will see it build c.3,000 new homes over the next five years putting it amongst the top 25 of developing housing associations. bpha is financially strong; it runs with an excellent operating margin the surplus from which is then reinvested in improving existing homes or in building new homes; it raises funding to support building development through debt capital markets and long-term banking relationships, is rated A+ (stable) by Standard & Poor’s and achieves the top gradings of G1 & V1 for governance and viability from its regulatory body The Regulator of Social Housing (RSH).

Customers are at the heart of everything bpha does. It is a ‘social business’ with charitable aims so whilst the organisation is run with a commercial ethos to achieve excellent ‘value for money’ standards, all surpluses that are generated, and in the 2017/18 year that was £35m, are reinvested in the organisation and its work. In doing so we support a wide range of community activities that help improve the quality of life for our residents, bringing people together and benefiting the wider communities in which they live.

The successful candidate will be:

A qualified accountant with experience as the Finance Director of a large, multi-faceted business, preferably including exposure to real estate.

Someone with real leadership qualities who will lead and inspire the Finance, Corporate Finance and IT departments, with the energy to drive change combined with the interpersonal skills to make the team want to take this journey.

Able to demonstrate first class people and organisational skills – must be able to win support for ideas internally and externally and utilise people resources effectively in the implementation of strategies and plans. Someone with the credibility and track record to gain the trust and respect of senior non-executive and executive colleagues, investors, lenders and rating agencies.

An individual with deep understanding of the politics and technical issues arising from managing a complex loan portfolio with a proven track record of managing lender and investor relationships. They will develop and deploy an effective treasury management policy and function that delivers the targets in the business plan and ensures that the Group is able to maximise opportunities.

Able to demonstrate highly developed commercial understanding and expertise, ensuring that the organisation is able to pursue its new business ambitions while operating as a financially strong entity with sustained long term capacity.

Closing date: Friday 7th June 2019.
