About Our Client

Eastern Academic Health Science Network ("Eastern AHSN") is one of 15 Academic Health Science Networks (AHSNs) set up by the NHS in 2013 to spread innovation at pace and scale across the healthcare system.

The AHSNs are the only bodies whose role is to connect all partners across the relevant sectors - the NHS and academic organisations, local authorities, the third sector and industry.

Everything Eastern AHSN does is driven by two goals: improving healthcare and generating economic growth. In common with the other AHSNs, Eastern AHSN are catalysts, working to create the right conditions to facilitate change across our health and social care economies, improving outcomes for patients.

Eastern AHSN work as a network, bringing together innovators, expert practitioners, researchers and, most importantly, citizens and staff across health and care communities. Eastern AHSN's role is to help create, accelerate and deploy solutions that positively impact our health and care service. And by supporting and accelerating the use of innovative products and services developed in our region, Eastern AHSN contributes to economic growth.

Job Description

The Head of Finance / Company Secretary will be a substantive appointment with the Head of Finance role reporting to the Chief Executive and the Company Secretary reporting to the Chair of the Board.

The postholder will be a member of the Senior Management Team. The requirement for this role is estimated as 2 days per week for the Head of Finance with the remaining 2 days per week for the Company Secretary role.

We believe that the role could suit an individual wanting a 4-day week. For a full-time postholder, the remaining time could be spent supporting the wider team on the financial and commercial aspects of project work, e.g. on bid development or financial analysis.

The post-holder will be required to work closely with the Chair and Non-Executive Directors, CEO, the Senior Management Team and wider team as well as internal and external stakeholders including NHS England.

The Successful Applicant

We are looking for a CCAB qualified accountant with evidence of continuing professional accreditation/education and learning with a proven track record of successful leadership at Board level in a service delivery organisation. This could include small and growing technology or consulting companies or potentially the third sector. Previous experience of undertaking the company secretarial role and/or embedding high standards of corporate governance within an organisation is also essential.

Requirements:

  • Commercially astute, articulate, technically strong, dynamic, insightful and influential leader with the ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels
  • Have proven experience in direct management and supervision of a finance team
  • Proven experience of budget preparation, setting and monitoring and financial forecasting
  • Experience of liaising with auditors, business advisers and board members
