This top 200 Law Firm based in Cambridgeshire is seeking a Qualified Accountant to take on the role of FD Designate.

Applicants must have previous experience in a Law Firm and be looking for their next career move which will involve actively running the Finance team and shaping the team in line with the delivery of the Firm's growth plans. Working alongside the Managing Partner and Senior Management Team, you will increasingly take on the responsibilities of Finance Director (and will become Finance Director by 1 June 2020).

Core Aspects of the role:

  • Supervise the day to day work of the Finance team including identifying ways to continuously improve our financial controls and record keeping and reporting, which may include developing and embedding new financial policies and procedures
  • Oversee all the firm's transactions, including bank reconciliations, accounts payable and accounts receivable, payroll review, and other nominal ledger entries, as well as management reporting and general operational finance issues, such as management of the firm's and clients' bank accounts
  • Review and present the monthly financial reports, continually looking for ways to optimise the way financial information is produced for your stakeholders
  • Develop management reports that identify trends in fee-earner, departmental and firm-wide performance for senior management
  • Oversee the way in which the firm's cashflow is monitored against forecast and cashflow projections updated, as circumstances dictate
  • Ensure compliance with relevant taxation laws and policies, such as SRA, GAAP and PAYE Regulations and the treatment of the firm's income and expenditure
  • Work with department managers to ensure that their business plans link to the firm's vision and strategy, ensuring they understand not only the financial performance of their department, but how they can impact positively on this
  • Design and drive KPI frameworks that provide a clear insight into business performance
  • Actively participate in merger and growth discussions with members, providing input on financial and operational information, and specific projects e.g. due diligence or cost benefit analysis
  • Take ownership for the firm's annual budgeting process and production of statutory accounts
  • Liaise with, and manage, the firm's relationship with its external auditors
  • Manage relationships with the firm's bankers and maximise value for money from our treasury activities and borrowings
  • Be an active member of the Senior Management Team, reporting on progress against financial objectives and key operational issues
  • Lead the development of the Finance team ensuring that the finance function provides a consistent, seamless and high quality service at all times

The environment is fast-paced, challenging and deadline focussed so the role requires a commercially minded individual who understand the legal sector and who can provide strategic leadership and direction over the firm's finances, delivering assurance of the financial health of its operations and ensuring the integrity of financial information sent to the senior leaders.

The ideal applicant will have worked for a law firm or a professional services organisation or be making the move from Private Practice to Industry and have the ambition to take the FD designate role with a view to assuming the Finance Director role autonomously by April 2020.

You must be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA minimum 10 years PQE) possessing excellent financial technical skills including attention to detail, a rigorous approach, and experience in reviewing and presenting accurate figures for management purposes as well as experience in identifying and implementing operational efficiencies and leading finance projects, including audits.

If you are highly motivated, ambitious and adept at building and maintaining strong, transparent relationships with key stakeholders then this could be the career move for you.

This is a permanent role paying £100,000 - £120,000 depending on experience plus benefits.
