Reporting to the Managing Director, this is a pivotal role within our client - a visionary pioneer in their sector. With constant innovation and performance the organisation has built a reputation for technical leadership on an international basis.

Overall aim:

To provide strategic vision and direction for the Operations directorate ensuring that the annual corporate & 5 year strategic objectives for the business are met. This will encompass efficient transition of designs into production, supply chain management and championing world leading continuous improvements in manufacturing methods and processes to deliver on time, reduce build costs whilst improving product quality and reliability standards.

Key to this role:

You will lead a team of 70 across the various disciplines of Purchasing, Production, Machine Shop & Facilities.

Operational Management:
  • To lead the manufacturing team in providing on time delivery of high technology products to the required cost & quality standards.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and NPI teams to ensure effective transition of products from design into manufacturing including DFM, DFT, Pre-Production and Change Management activities.
  • To lead the Operations Directorate team, applying the most appropriate management style to achieve peak work performance and generate a great team spirit, ensuring clear understanding of objectives, roles and responsibilities, regular constructive feedback, recognition of individual performance, achievement of personal development plans and prompt action to rectify any improvement areas at a personal or functional capability level.
  • Championing continuous improvements in the manufacturing methods and processes to deliver on time, providing reduced build costs whilst improving product quality and reliability standards.
  • To ensure that the rolling 12 month Sales Forecast and current weekly delivery demands with often minimal visibility of lead times are met by the rolling Production Master Schedule and liaise with key players to resolve any areas of difficulty.
  • To propose Capital Expenditure for both new machinery and major changes to the operations function to optimise production capabilities whilst ensuring efficiency.
  • Responsible for the supply and logistics processes. Working with Finance, Sales and Engineering to ensure stock holding levels are in line with company strategy, external market factors and customer support commitments whilst driving increased efficiency in these areas.

STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT:
  • Play a key role in driving change within the organisation and subsidiaries both through developing manufacturing strategy to meet future needs.
  • Working with the Board to develop new product design and new sector diversification.
  • Involvement in the company's obsolescence strategy formulation to ensure procurement and current component stock levels are appropriate.
  • To be an active member of the Executive team of Directors supporting the Managing Director with the strategic development & direction of the Company
  • Attend regular Board and Executive meetings and prepare & present regular Board reports
  • Participation in the establishment and updating of the Company Business Development Strategic Plan ensuring active and balanced inputs from a manufacturing perspective.
  • Contributing positively to senior management issues of strategy, acquisition and integration, diversification, performance management, succession planning and Business Excellence.
  • Initiating and generating reports on issues of current and strategic importance.
  • Development and introduction of manufacturing improvements E.g. Lean manufacturing, appropriate use of robotics and line improvements.
