Project Director - Commercial Fit-Out and Refurb - West Midlands

My West Midlands based client is seeking an experienced Project Director for their internal fit-out and refurb division, responsible for £120m worth of turnover in the UK alone. The ideal candidate should be employed by a recognised fit-out and refurb contractor on a permanent basis, and have a minimum of 5yrs experience in a Director or Snr Management role within the internal construction market. This role will include navigating between numerous sites in the West Midlands and head office in Birmingham. You will be reporting directly to the Managing Director of the firm, and sat on the Board of Directors, attending weekly meetings.

My client carries out multiple fit-outs and refurb schemes across London and the West Midlands for different blue-chip clients. This role is the head up delivery of fit-out and refurbs across the West Midlands, with some projects towards The North as well. Project values typically range between £12m-£30m, with some larger jobs including a £35m cat B commercial fit-out of occupied premises in the West Midlands.

Candidates must have demonstrated delivery of similar sized jobs, and be fully computer literate. This is a hands-on role and requires managers who are able to lead Project Managers across multiple sites. Directors applying for this role must have a vast experience in delivering projects from point of sale to completion on sites, and ideally, have worked their way up the ranks (from a Construction/Project manager etc.) Ability to take full control and responsibility for delivery, health & safety, quality, and environmental aspects is vital.

Responsibilities consist of the following:
  • Safety: plan, direct, coordinate and lead activities in accordance with the relevant standard procedures and ensure the proper implementation of my client's safety policy across sites.
  • Financial Management: responsible for the profitability of the contracts and be fully accountable to the Board
  • Pre-Construction: contribute to initial planning, establish work plan and resources, develop relationships, manage the tender production process, agree on the commencement date and arrange for completion of contract documents
  • Construction: all aspects of quality, client management, selection of major subcontractors and supplies, safety and environmental management
  • Post Construction: service during the defects liability period
  • Business Development: market the Company to identify new business opportunities

Ideally, you would have come, or have a history with one of the main Interiors contractors, to name a few - BW, Virtus, Overbury, Ibex, Parkeray, Como etc. Experience in shop fitting/retail or industrial building as a secondary experience would be desirable and a qualification in building/construction - CIOB, MAPM, BSc, HND.
