Imperial College London is one of the world’s greatest universities, renowned for its ground-breaking research, talented community of staff, students and alumni and its international reach. Inspirational, multi-cultural, and truly global in its outlook, Imperial has three faculties – Engineering, Medicine and Natural Sciences, as well as the Imperial College Business School. Financially strong, with an annual turnover of £1 billion, Imperial has an international community of 18,000 students, 8,000 staff and 200,000 alumni.

The College is seeking to appoint a Chair of Council, the governing body of the College. The Chair provides leadership and direction to the Council, enabling it to fulfil its responsibilities for the overall governance and direction of the University. Applications are sought from individuals who have held senior leadership and/or governance posts within organisations of significant scale and complexity. Experience of international corporations and industry (especially those that relate across science, engineering, technology and medicine), corporate governance, the wider public sector and government would all be desirable. A demonstrable commitment to, or interest in, education and research is important, and candidates must resonate with Imperial’s mission and vision.

The appointment is for an initial term of four years, renewable by the Council for another four-year term. Reasonable expenses may be claimed but the Chair of Council position is not remunerated.

Imperial College London is running an executive search process for this role, led by the Deputy Chair of the Council, John Cullen, as Chair of the Selection Committee. To enquire further please contact Simon Laver or Lucy Simpson at Perrett Laver, by clicking on Apply.
