Renowned for its pioneering spirit and experimental reputation for more than 50 years, Brighton Festival has become one of the city’s most enduring symbols of inventiveness. Since 2009 it has welcomed a major cultural figure to guest curate and enhance the prestige of the artistic programme. Anish Kapoor, Brian Eno, Vanessa Redgrave, Michael Rosen, Hofesh Shechter, Ali Smith, Laurie Anderson, Kate Tempest and David Shrigley are just a few of the people who have contributed.

As custodians of the Grade I and Grade II listed Brighton Dome, which is part of the iconic Royal Pavilion Estate, the organisation presents a rich and varied programme throughout the year, spanning music, theatre, dance, comedy, literature, spoken word, visual arts, film, digital, community and participatory events, as well as operating a thriving music & arts education service for the city’s children and young people.

As Chair, working in close partnership with Brighton & Hove City Council and Arts Council England, your innate ambition and instinctive pragmatism will help their small and committed team navigate and strengthen their extensive network of partnerships, develop their commercial and philanthropic income streams and establish the organisation as an internationally significant destination for artists and audiences.
