Great opportunity to build upon your experience - whatever your background and wherever you are in the UK

The MS Society is seeking new Trustees. People who want to help us to become even more effective and who share our commitment to stop MS. Strategic thinkers with excellent communication skills, who can assimilate complex information and ask challenging and strategic questions. Do you want to work with us as we seek to create a world free from the effects of MS and make a real difference to the lives of people affected by MS? As we fund ground-breaking research into the causes and treatment of MS whilst at the same time supporting people with MS here and now?

We’re seeking three highly-talented individuals with the right personal qualities and necessary experience. This year we have three priorities and are looking for individuals who will help us address one or more of them.

First, we are looking for individuals with the following specific skills and experience:

  • Fundraising
  • Marketing / communications
  • Digital transformation
  • Mobilisation / Campaigning / movement building
  • Policy & advocacy

People affected by MS are at the heart of our decisions and work - we would welcome applications from people who themselves have MS.

We have long been committed to equality of opportunity but the importance of the Board of Trustees containing a wide range of experiences and ways of thinking is growing, not reducing. Increasing the diversity of the Board is therefore a priority in and of itself. We would particularly welcome applications from groups who tend to be under-represented on boards, particularly individuals from under-represented socio economic backgrounds, individuals who are under 35 years of age, and those who would broaden the Broad’s diversity in terms of ethnicity and geography.

Our starting point is to look for people who have experience at Board level in other public or private organisations, or other equivalent experience. We realise though that a lack of diversity on other boards or the difficulties of working with MS may mean that you haven’t had the opportunity to acquire that experience elsewhere - so if you believe you can help address the priorities we’ve set ourselves, perhaps with some initial support and development, and be a good Trustee then please don’t hold back.

You need to share our values and be prepared to commit the time and energy needed to do a great job. The role is a voluntary one – though expenses are paid. Applications from across the UK are encouraged. Where you live does not affect whether you would be a good Trustee.

The deadline for completed applications is 10 May (5pm) and interviews are likely to be held primarily on Monday 20 May, and possibly Tuesday 21 May.

You can find more information about this role, and information regarding how to apply on the MS Society website.

Should you have any further questions about the role, or about the charity, please contact Amber Esposito, Governance Officer, at 020 8827 0470 or click on Apply.

Not the role for you?  We are also looking for people to join our national councils in England, Scotland, Cymru and Northern Ireland. These are a vital link, in each of the UK’s four nations, between our Board of Trustees and our senior staff – and our local groups, members and the wider community of people living with MS. They are one of the ways in which we ensure that the day-to-day experience of people affected by MS is heard and understood. Again, please contact Amber for further information.

Company

We’re the MS Society – a community of people living with MS, scientists, campaigners, volunteers and fundraisers.

We understand what life’s like with MS, and we support each other through the highs, lows and everything in between.

And we’re driving research into more – and better – treatments. For everyone.

Together, we are strong enough to stop MS.
