Commercial Finance Director
Controlling Growth, Optimising Opportunity & Maximising Returns
“to care enough to do the right thing”
Our client, Rodda’s (www.roddas.co.uk), is one of the UK’s leading dairy businesses producing a comprehensive range of products. Located in the heart of Cornwall they are dedicated to crafting fabulous Cornish Clotted Cream that is enjoyed on the national and world stage and is one of Cornwall’s best loved delicacies.
Rodda’s plays an integral role in the local and rural economy, being supplied by some 50+ Cornish farmers and as you will appreciate 125 years of history sees them woven into the fabric of the county.
This key role will be the “engine room” of finance, driving and managing MIS to produce monthly management and annual statutory accounts in a meaningful and timely fashion. Stewardship of the accounting function, as well as strong IT skills, are taken as read but added value is actively sought in the wider commercial debate on mix, margin and yield. In conjunction with the MD and the Senior Management Team you will determine strategies for driving growth and increasing profitability by identifying key operational issues and by bringing organisation structure and team building skills to the business.
The requirement is to be the Board’s foil, to support the decision-making with critical analysis, to liaise with advisers and bankers, to evaluate and enumerate business plans as well as major contract opportunities. The responsibility is to maximise returns, de-risk the company from a financial stability/commercial trading perspective without stifling opportunity. You will drive both efficiencies and systems, eradicating waste, lead a small focused team and develop a can-do/value-add finance culture that enables business development, whilst enhancing the company’s contribution to the local economy. You will be an integral part of the strategic planning and decision-making processes, surrounding investment and business expansion decisions.
You will also have considerable experience at Finance Director level, understand the OMB dynamics, and will be able to demonstrate how your rigorous approach to reporting structures and financial processes will add value to the business. Process improvement is a key area of the role and candidates must be skilled at analysing business objectives and finding ways of streamlining and improving business processes. As well as sound cashflow and cash management experience, candidates will have a commercial focus, excellent motivational and communication skills. You are not precious about computer systems but are about the accuracy and meaningfulness that comes from them. You are proactive and incisive and would relish the opportunity to build this outstanding brand, whilst being the face of finance.
