Job Details

Reporting to the Strategy Director, the Strategy Principal will be responsible for both leading strategic evaluations and the strategic planning process. You will play an integral role in shaping the strategy, creating plans and leading key strategic initiatives on behalf of the business. The successful candidate will also lead a number of virtual teams as part of the strategic planning cycle. Significant engagement across all levels of the business is therefore required to influence a number of multi faceted teams and senior stakeholders alike.

Strategy Principal key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the end to end strategic planning process for the business (encompassing the Medium Term and Annual Operating Plans) to deliver the future vision underpinned by a fully costed and aligned financial plan
  • Leading key strategic evaluations and strategic projects across the business, providing analyses and recommendations to senior level sponsors including the Executive Team
  • Ensuring operational alignment to the strategy to include development of scorecards to ensure effective execution of the strategy
  • Managing the Executive Team and Board interlock in relation to the strategic planning cycle and required governance and decision making
  • Integrating closely with the Market Insight team to ensure that overall strategy addresses key environmental drivers
  • Working closely with the Virtual Strategic Planning team across commercial, finance and regulatory to identify, prioritise and address all primary strategic challenges
  • Managing the Risks associated with business strategy, including regular reviews and evaluations in line with an agreed risk governance framework

Experience required:

  • MBA and/or other degree or professional qualification, or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrable experience of leading significant business impacting strategy development processes and related strategic evaluations and projects
  • Highly credible with senior leaders and able to provide and lead analytical and innovative thinking with respect to strategic planning and associated activities and priorities
  • Ability to challenge and influence appropriately and effectively across a broad range of strategic topics and issues
  • Ability to cut through complexity and deliver synthesised and compelling recommendations based upon sound reasoning and judgement
  • Strong understanding of external and internal drivers spanning the telecoms landscape, customer, competition, regulation, technology and economic structures
  • Strong business acumen and commercial experience including ability to create and lead engagement around key business cases to enable decision making
  • Capability to create, lead and direct senior matrix teams with some not necessarily with line management control
