Base salary £60,000

Ref: L10857

Our client is a significant international group and leading provider of electrical process automation and safety systems with a strong focus on the on-shore and off-shore, oil and gas, marine, energy, power generation and logistics sectors. It has an unrivalled reputation for its technical and engineering capabilities and is recognised as a leader in industrial process control. It has a head office in Singapore and is starting up a new operation in the UK, based in South Wales, and this is the key first employee for them in this new venture. Based on site within the offices of the partner engineering group, this role will focus on the electrical elements of projects that the host company is engaged in. These are significant wide ranging projects and our client will be installing and maintaining electrical controls and instrumentation for these new projects and upgrades on both green and brown field sites across a broad range of sectors, with waste to energy projects being a good example.

As Technical Manager you will report into the Singapore based HQ and work in close collaboration with the onsite management of the partner company. You will need to be strong both technically and commercially, taking a lead role in the technical aspects of the projects including reviewing the design and documentation as well as site supervision. Additionally, you will also solve electrically based technical issues that arise within proposals and bids, manage the execution of the projects, coordinating with clients, vendors and internal staff.

You are likely to have a degree in engineering and have a strong electrical background with significant experience in high, medium and low voltage electrical work and in consequence experience in electrical distribution systems, switch gears, switchboards, MCC, transformers and related systems are all highly relevant. Your career will have developed through electrical engineering into projects and also include significant elements of commercial tender /proposal management.

The ideal candidate will combine deep experience in both electrical project execution and technical proposals. The role will broaden through time including building up an established UK presence and a team and whilst the proposals will be initially focused on current work in the UK with the partner, it will extend to new business wins in your own right going forward, so you will also need to be sales orientated. Based in South Wales there will be some travel to customer sites to advise on electrical installations, technical specifications and costings and you will be heavily involved with the engineering teams at the Head Office in Singapore.

This is an excellent career growth opportunity within an international group which has significant ambition for its new UK Company and in large measure you would be the master of your own destiny in this role. You will be expected live within a reasonable commute of South Wales.
