The Organisation

Our client is a global services provider which operates in the UK from a secure HQ in the Midlands / Northern Home Counties they have recently rolled out MS Project Online.

Role and Responsibilities

An interim Head of Portfolio Planning is required to lead a team of planning and resourcing specialists, and author the strategy for the Planning Office, and be accountable for an integrated approach and process for planning.

This is a senior-level Portfolio Management role.

The interim Head of Portfolio Planning will:

  • Support the Head of Central Planning in developing and operating systems and processes that enable the full lifecycle delivery of portfolios, programmes and projects and services
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of customer business requirements
  • Maintain strong working relationships with colleagues in Business Services and Commercial
  • Work with colleagues and customers to ensure that planning outputs are understood and consistently used to best effect in portfolio and programme teams
  • Run and sponsor benefits mapping workshops to check baselining integrity and planning consistency
  • Liaise with a wide range of stakeholders within internal and external organisations as required, to ensure that business information is gathered, shared, and can be used for planning purposes
  • Synthesise the results of portfolio, programme and project analyses into clear written and verbal briefings
  • Work with Data, BI&Systems colleagues to maintain efficient dashboards and other information sources
  • Develop portfolio analysis approaches that enable stakeholders to achieve their business strategic objectives
  • Develop and run scenario modelling approaches for resource and capacity planning, based on coordinated inputs
  • Advise on best practice for the use of technical solutions (especially MS Projects Online) for analysing and leveraging planning data and information.
  • Develop frameworks and decision matrices to enable the identification and prioritisation of new projects, and to analyse the impact any new project will have on resources and capacity
  • Investigate and resolve any anomalies in the integrity of our data and planning information, even in situations of significant complexity
  • Line management of a range of staff in planning, resource and capacity planning, including appraisals and ongoing personal development

This is a two-month role which is deliverables based, and outside of IR35.

The Desired Applicant

The interim Head of Portfolio Planning will:

  • Have extensive experience in all the above elements of the role
  • Be an experienced Head of Portfolio Planning within a similar environment, ideally within a Government organisation
  • Possess a formal recognised Project Management qualification
  • Have senior level stakeholder skills

It is essential that the interim Assurance Specialist holds current and active SC Security Clearance – this is a minimum requirement for this role. Please DO NOT apply if you do not hold this.
