Our client is a profitable market-leading technology provider that has successfully commercialised a highly disruptive technology product with wide-reaching applications for a global, blue-chip customer base operating in a wide range of high-profile industries.

The product and service offering is highly specialised and provides game-changing improvements over existing, more traditional methodologies. Markets served are significant in scale and this has led to a dramatic increase in demand and rapid growth as the technology is increasingly adopted.

Last year turnover was c-£15m but the current run-rate will see the business grow rapidly by a minimum of 50% year on year.

The business seeks to recruit a highly seasoned commercially minded finance executive to join the board as  CFO to ensure that it capitalises on its full potential in the years to come. The CFO will build a strong partnership with the senior management team in helping to deliver the strategic business plan, using his/her commercial judgement.  He/she will be a key strategic partner to the CEO in helping her to help prioritize the strategic agenda and build enterprise value.

Working as a key member of the board you will assume full responsibility for the financial control and financial planning of the business together with additional responsibility for IT and governance. This will require a hands-on mentality but at the same time the commercial and strategic aspects of the role cannot be overemphasised as this is not a run-of-the-mill, steady state environment.  You will need to strike the right balance between being hands-on and strategic as the business builds to a significant, £multi-million exit valuation.

The business has raised some debt in the last twelve months and so bank reporting and covenant compliance is an important component of the role and prior experience of managing external funders and other stakeholders – in, for example, private equity, VC, or AIM listed environments -  is an important requirement, ideally aligned to a successful growth story right through to a successful high-value exit.

Importantly, you will possess strong leadership, mentoring and coaching skills and a track record of building first-class teams of talented people.

You are likely to have gained experience in a fast moving international technology business (technology products, software, SaaS, innovation etc.) with some experience of entering and integrating new geographies. You will be passionate about all things “tech” with a healthy obsession for trends in the tech industry and the KPI’s by which successful tech business models are measured and you be able to rapidly understand the product suite and its place in the market.

Specifics:

  • Qualified accountant with several years post qualification experience and significant experience as an FD or CFO
  • Proven negotiation, financial and strategic planning skills
  • Excellent presentation, delegation and communication skills
  • Tenacity, willingness to go the extra mile, a team player, coach and mentor
  • Successful track record of delivering results in a high growth private company environment– venture capital-backed, private equity-backed or equivalent
  • International business experience

The business is headquartered in Nottingham with additional sales staff in the US and further international development planned in the short term.

Remuneration will comprise a competitive basic salary bonus and a benefits package that befits a position of this importance, but importantly it will also offer the very real potential for significant wealth creation on successful exit via a suitable share options/equity scheme.
