Finance Director

This is a fantastic opportunity to join one of the region's most recognisable and valued retail brands as Finance Director. The business has deep held family roots in the North of England, and is a significant employer with a workforce of thousands. Built on principles of great customer service, experience and value; this retailer works with some of the biggest fashion, homeware, and cosmetic brands from across the globe.

The business is in the early stages of an exciting transformation, expansion and modernisation across the whole organisation, prompted by the appointment of a new dynamic CEO coupled with investment. The successful candidate appointed as Finance Director will play a crucial role in the business' future for decades to come. The right character will come with a positive, forward-thinking and enthusiastic approach, challenging practices throughout the entire business and presenting new ideas to drive forward.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full responsibility across the whole spectrum of finance within the business
  • Commercial Finance, and improvement of Finance Business Partnering in key departments
  • Oversee Management Accounting and ensure provision of timely, accurate and insightful MI across all departments
  • Increase efficiency, speed and automation of financial support to maximise 'value-adding' activity
  • Oversee, review, and shape budgets for each business department
  • Company-wide budgetary planning, reporting and analysis
  • Ensure that all of the company's financial practices are in line in statutory regulations and legislation
  • Continual analyses of market trends, customer behaviour and economic factors to assist the board in creating strategic plans for the future
  • Interpret complex financial information and provide updates and information as required
  • Monitor cash flow, accounts, and other financial transactions
  • Manage, develop and maintain a leading finance team, ensuring the facilitation of day-to-day operations, invoicing, payroll, etc.
  • Prepare official reports on a monthly and annual basis, as well as ad-hoc reporting & analysis as and when required
  • Ensure effective management of financial risk, control and governance
  • Create and maintain relationships with service providers and contractors, including banking institutions and external accountants
  • Update and implement financial policies and procedures
  • Maintain a policy manual for the finance department promoting best practice
  • Work with talent team to attract key talent who will be an asset to the finance department and future succession planning

Person Profile

  • ACA, ACCA, CIMA qualified (c.10+ year PQE)
  • Previous experience in a CFO, Finance Director, Head of Finance role
  • Retail or Consumer industry experience would be beneficial
  • Dynamic, energetic and enthusiastic character with an appetite to improve finance in all areas over several years
  • Willingness and desire to get involved and understand the business from a grass roots level

  • £90,000 - £100,000 plus excellent benefits
