Job Details

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is at the heart of the criminal justice system, working with our partners to protect the public and create a safe society. Our role is to make sure that the right person is prosecuted for the right offence, and to bring offenders to justice wherever possible.

We are now looking to appoint a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This is a critical leadership role with executive responsibility for the operational and strategic management of the CPS, which has approximately 6,000 staff. Working in close partnership with the Director of Public Prosecutions, and with direct line management for the Executive Management Group, the CEO will provide the strong and clear leadership and direction required to shape and develop CPS’ vision and strategic priorities, driving performance to deliver a first class and professional service. The CEO will actively collaborate with the Attorney General, Attorney General’s Office and other government departments and agencies to lead and direct significant criminal justice system change and wider Civil Service reform priorities.

This is a challenging and demanding, but hugely rewarding, role. To be successful, you will need to be an experienced, resilient and confident leader with an outstanding track record of driving delivery, major change and performance improvement in a large and complex organisation that is subject to public and media scrutiny. You will have a proven clarity of thinking and analytical ability when making decisions, and first-class communication, influencing and relationship management skills. You will be able to engage constructively with a wide range of senior stakeholders and build strong networks across government. An understanding of the criminal justice system and the wider landscape in which the CPS operates and/or experience of working with local or national government may be helpful. You will lead an inclusive and collaborative working culture which values diversity and treats everyone with respect.

This is a career defining opportunity and the chance to have a real impact on shaping the strategic direction of the CPS, driving improvements and building further public confidence and trust in this important public service.

Closing date is 5pm on Friday, 15th March 2019.
