For a highly experienced P3M practitioner used to influencing at the very highest levels, there are few bigger challenges. The Ministry of Defence manages the world’s 5th largest defence budget. This unique opportunity will see you deliver a portfolio of works that will have a significant impact on our national security, prosperity and international priorities.

The 2015 Strategic Defence and Security Review set out plans for more ships, more planes, more troops at readiness, better equipment for Special Forces, and more tools for cyber defence. In fact, we are set to increase defence spending every year and continue to meet NATO’s target 2% of GDP for the rest of the decade.

This role has far-reaching scope and visibility: the fruits of your work will be delivered to frontline commands, and almost immediately used in the field. We will look to you to shape government and senior military thinking around policy, finance, capability, acquisitions and industry.

You will lead a team of around 50 civilians and military personnel and oversee investment of over £1bn a year into technology, capital and services that underpin weapon and directed energy systems, including the Complex Weapon Pipeline and 17 strategic Test and Evaluation capabilities. This will call for strong relationships with Front Line Commands, UK industry and key partners including the US, Sweden and France.

Most importantly, it is crucial that you have considerable P3M expertise in high-value, high-visibility programmes delivered in complex environments. An inspirational leader, you will also bring an impressive record of developing talent, influencing stakeholders and astute financial management. You will have working experience of defence and, as this is a highly politicised area, your ability to navigate competing agendas will be key.

There is a range of benefits on offer, including the Civil Service pension. But the real rewards are the multifaceted political, strategic and operational role itself, and the knowledge that your efforts will equip our Armed Forces with the tools they need to keep the country safe.
