The Head of Platform and Standards will act as the organisation’s overall technical architect ensuring all new products and services are built on Barnardo’s shared platform to shared standards. Sitting within the Digital and Technology Senior Leadership Team, this opportunity will also ensure that the data transformation strategy is aligned to the overall organisational aims and objectives.

Barnardo’s are using a digital approach to improve the lives of young people by building stronger families, safer childhoods and positive futures. Leading a team of functional experts this opportunity is critical to the digital and technology team and will be responsible for setting, enforcing and iteratively improving the standard ways of working.

The Role

  • Will provide technical leadership from concept to delivery in an agile outcome-focused environment; discovery, alpha and beta stages, ensuring research, synthesis, ideation, design and testing are continuous elements
  • Will drive, challenge and influence Stakeholders to create optimal technology outcomes and implement the principles of the Barnardo’s digital platform and migrate existing, and deploy new, services into them
  • Will set the expectations for ‘what good looks like’ by constantly striving to reduce technological complexity in pursuit of user-centricity whilst challenging the status quo of corporate IT’s reliance on enterprise and scaled systems

The Person

  • A passionate, experienced and tenacious, business facing IT Leader with a proven track record of impactful, agile end to end ownership of product development cycles
  • A pragmatic thinker with a detailed understanding of legislative, financial and reputational risk, and experience of putting in working practices to prevent and mitigate error
  • A mentor for Technical Architects, Product and Delivery Managers and Technical Specialists of varying levels of experience, including non-technical colleagues, able to build a team to produce high quality outputs within an agreed period of time
