Originating from a civilian organised, military air show or tattoo first staged in 1971, RAF Charitable Trust Enterprises (RAFCTE) is the trading arm of the RAF Charitable Trust (RAFCT), one of the four principal RAF charities.

RAFCTE is best known for staging the world renowned Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire each year.  In 2003, RIAT was granted status as the largest military air show globally by Guinness World Records.  In addition to the heads of many of the world’s air forces and major suppliers to the sector, RIAT also hosts thousands of aviation enthusiasts and members of the general public.  In total, over 185,000 people attended RIAT in 2018.

The ethos of RAFCTE is quite remarkable - with its reliance on an amazing group of 2,250 volunteers, RIAT could not take place without the support and commitment of its large, unpaid, volunteer workforce to run a busy military airfield that doubles as a showground during RIAT, mixing aircraft with a wide range of exhibitors, and other visitor attractions.
