Diversified Rural Estate

An exciting opportunity to lead a rural portfolio of commercial enterprises whilst working in close partnership with the Estate’s owners. The individual will develop and implement a new strategic plan to grow the existing operations whilst introducing innovative income streams aimed at safeguarding its long-term future.

The Position

  • Take overall responsibility for the co-ordination of running the Estate’s operations, including its farming, forestry, property, retail and sporting interests. Inspire, motivate and mentor the senior leadership team, including the executive members of the family in their roles as department heads.
  • Work closely with each business unit to optimise performance and identify compelling new opportunities, whilst preserving the Estate’s character and history.
  • Develop the Estate’s long-term business plan. Manage financial budgeting, appraisal and reporting across the Estate’s structure of entities. Closely participate in the management of major projects and schemes.
  • Act as an ambassador for the Estate to ensure positive working relationships with the local and wider community. Manage external stakeholders including commercial partners, professional agents and local authority representatives.

The Candidate

  • Track-record of successfully managing a diverse range of profitable enterprises with the entrepreneurial ability to anticipate emerging trends. Proven financial, commercial and strategic acumen.
  • Whilst a track record in the rural sector is not necessary, the individual must have an empathy for the countryside and appreciate the challenges and opportunities currently facing rural, land-based businesses.
  • Energetic, tenacious and hands-on with a meticulous attention to detail. Committed team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring qualities, as well as possessing the self-awareness and humility to carefully negotiate successful outcomes for key stakeholders.
