Our client is a leading global design and manufacturing company with an excellent reputation for continual investment in its product lines and for developing innovative solutions in specialist medical device markets. Part of a major multi-national plc, the business is a market leader with over a century of experience in its sector, manufacturing instruments which continue to lead in mature, competitive, distributor-served markets. Designing, manufacturing and assembling their instruments in the UK to meet demand from clients in multiple international markets, their instruments combine precision, high quality, innovative design and durability. 

With the business now set to execute the board’s longer-term strategy, a first-rate Sales and Business Development Director is now required to join a dynamic executive team. You will lead the team of Regional Managers and support teams, tasked with managing distributor relationships and developing sales volumes in assigned countries and global regions. You will also drive sub-assembly and related sales in the fast-growth partner channel, leading the team tasked with developing partnership-led relationships with other manufacturers of relevant products and solutions. 

You will be an established Sales Director (or an ambitious senior Sales professional ready to step-up to board-level) with a relevant background of manufactured product sales in distributor-led international markets. Medical device / instrument market experience would be useful however, more important is your ability to protect and build product sales in mature, often  transactional markets as well as develop new relationships where a long-term, partnership-led approach is required. You are likely to have a successful track record in similar, multi-national organisations, delivering sales and leading sales & support teams from the front in delivering against challenging targets. 

Job Title: Group Sales & Business Development Director

Reports to: CEO

Team: 6 x Direct Reports (Regional Managers + Partner & Support Teams, total team x 25)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute the Sales Business Plan through creating and delivering appropriate strategic and tactical sales plans 
  • Lead and develop the distributor and direct sales teams to meet & exceed sales objectives 
  • Set key sales revenue, margin and soft KPI’s to ensure that the sales team deliver against the plan
  • Manage sales budgets and agree appropriate resource requirements to enable delivery of key objectives
  • Build close collaborative partnerships with colleagues to develop & execute effective marketing strategies 
  • Report sales performance and performance-influencing factors to the board 
  • Monitor market trends & identify opportunities to support new product & new market development 

Package: Six-figure salary + executive bonus & benefits package

Location: SE England (plus c25% international travel)

Candidate profile:

  • Experienced Sales / Business Development Director with a demonstrable sales track record in relevant markets
  • Leads from the front and by example, utilising extensive experience gained in multi-national organisations
  • Strategic, collaborates closely with clients and colleagues alike to identify and act upon market developments
  • Can deliver top line growth in mature markets, leveraging relationships and delivering customer satisfaction
  • International markets experience – understands cultural differences and reacts to local market requirements
  • Excellent people and team leadership skills, able to develop future leaders in a fast-moving, dynamic business
