ACCESS: A Collaboration of Central, Eastern and Southern Shires is a c£43bn pooled investment collaboration. It represents the pension interests of eleven local authority funds and is responsible for maintaining and maximising investment performance.
The new role of Director is central to the successful delivery of the ACCESS pool’s objectives.
Hosted by Essex County Council, the Director will lead the ACCESS Support Unit and manage the key stakeholders. This will include Officers and Members in the eleven participating authorities, the pool operator and Central Government. Whilst complex and multi-layered, this stakeholder and partner landscape is unified in its purpose to make ACCESS a success, and will need close attention to manage the relationships and interdependencies effectively.
As Director you will need to bring excellent relationship management skills and be confident in an ambassadorial role at both local and national levels.
Similarly, you will be as comfortable working at scale and at a strategic level, as you are at ensuring operational business as usual. This role demands an appreciation of investments and governance but is much more than a technical role. Energy, drive, presence and self-awareness are all pre-requisites.
You will need to be credible to a range of audiences and be the kind of authentic leader who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves to make sure this ground-breaking endeavour delivers for the partner authorities and their pensioners in a progressive and sustainable manner. You will be accomplished at driving and achieving consensus, promoting and stimulating innovation and embedding a culture of success. Irrespective of your career to date, you will be able to deploy your partnership and stakeholder management experience to good effect here.
