Job Details

The Tipton (‘Society’) is a successful, contemporary independent Building Society founded in 1901 in the offices of a local solicitor.  They have progressed considerably since then and are now situated in modern purpose built headquarters in the heart of the West Midlands with assets of over £360m, circa 85 employees based out of four primary locations (Tipton, Coseley, Bilston and Sedgley), and through which members primarily transact.

The Society’s strategy of keeping things simple and sticking to its core values stands up well and continues to appeal to existing and new members.  Their principle purpose is “enabling people to own their home at all stages of life”, this is true to their roots and why they were established. This vision is supported through raising funds from member savings and in doing so providing them a safe and secure home for their savings. The Society has recently strengthened its Senior Leadership Team, one of the benefits from this has been a broader and better targeted mortgage product offering.  They have also commenced implementation of a digital strategy which includes using private cloud to enhance operational resilience.  The Society’s digital strategy is a long-term vision to ensure that it can continue to meet the needs of customers by providing a greater choice in how they do business with the Society; this strategy will require delivery of a clear product strategy and a sharp and well targeted market focus as one of the keys to success.

The Society is looking to strengthen its Board further with the appointment of a Non-Executive Director to support succession planning. Given the continued growth ambitions of the Society, this presents an opportunity to supplement the existing skillsets of the Board with additional sales and marketing (digital) expertise/know-how with an emphasis on customer insight and service both from a Business-to-Business - 80% of mortgage lending comes via intermediary networks, and Business-to-Consumer channel perspectives. S/he will have a demonstrable track record of shaping/influencing/delivering profitable and sustainable sales growth.

The successful appointee will be the “customer advocate/ champion” in the boardroom, able to demonstrate a successful career of working within organisations that place the customer at the heart of everything they do. Broad based strategic marketing skills are essential, as well as an intimate understanding of multi-channel solutions e.g. digital technologies, that provide a seamless customer experience. Candidates will be able to demonstrate having successfully developed tailored marketing solutions based on strong market segmentation analysis; an affinity to the retail sector or development of third-party relationships would be advantageous. Consideration will be made for this being an individual’s first Non-Executive Director appointment however, it is very likely that they will already have significant Board or Divisional Board experience.

Upon joining, and in addition to attending Board Meetings, you will become a member of the Audit & Compliance and Remuneration Committees.

Please reply by clicking on the "Apply" button below, submitting a CV and short covering letter demonstrating how you meet the requirements of this role, quoting reference number RAGF5995.  Alternatively, for an informal and confidential discussion please call our advising consultants – Rachel Allen or Rupert Gibb - on 0845 261 0600.

All third party and direct applications will be forwarded to Warren Partners.
