Eastbourne College & St Andrew’s Prep

Bursar

Eastbourne College and St Andrew’s Prep operate as two independent schools within one charity, Eastbourne College Incorporated (ECi). The charity has one governing body and a combined support function for which the Bursar is responsible as chief operating officer. The schools are stunningly situated between the seaside and South Downs, central to the town’s amenities and accessible by direct train to London.

Eastbourne College is a thriving independent boarding and day school, educating 630 pupils aged 13-18. The College places a strong emphasis on health, happiness and holistic education. The breadth of experiences at Eastbourne College enable pupils to flourish both at school and beyond.

St Andrew’s Prep is a non-selective independent day and boarding school for girls and boys from 9 months to 13 years. There are around 290 pupils in the Pre-prep and Prep School and another 70 pupils in the Nursery. Day pupils are accepted for all year groups and pupils can board from Year 3 upwards.

As the charity continues to evolve, following ambitious investment in facilities at both schools, the governors and heads are seeking a dynamic and ambitious Bursar who will help guide Eastbourne College Incorporated into the next exciting chapter of its development.

Reporting to the Headmaster of the College, the Bursar will lead and manage a complex support staff serving all non-academic operations of the charity, ensuring its overall financial health and sustainability. The Bursar will play an integral role in developing the charity’s vision, as well as implementing its strategy, working closely with both heads and acting as Clerk to the Board of Governors. They will provide commercial input into key areas, including expansion of the education provision and the ongoing development of the historic school sites and state-of-the-art facilities.

The successful candidate will be an experienced professional with a track record of managing finance and other resources, as well as the delivery of organisational change. A commitment to the values and mission of the charity and a collaborative and enabling style of leadership will also be key elements.

Further information on the schools can be found at www.eastbourne-college.co.uk and www.standrewsprep.co.uk. A candidate brief can be downloaded from www.odgers.com/70297.

Letters of application and CVs should be sent by Monday 11 February 2019 to Odgers Berndtson.

Eastbourne College Incorporated (registered charity no. 307071) is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
