The Company

Our client is a well established and reputable holding company consisting of several separate business including a very successful food manufacturing business, a capital equipment company and a property business. In total, the holding company manages revenues of c.£50m and has an EBITDA of 10%.  As part of their ongoing expansion, they are now searching for a CFO / Finance Director who will lead the finance function of the holding company as well as mentoring the Financial Controllers of the separate entities. This is an ideal role for an experienced, hands-on FD / CFO who would enjoy working across several separate businesses.

The Role

As the business continues its growth, so there is a requirement to upskill the finance function by hiring an experienced Finance Director who will be responsible for the entire finance function and provide strategic insight and Management Information too.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Finance team management, managing a team of 5
  • Ensure that all of the company's financial practices are in line in statutory regulations and legislation
  • Manage treasury function (including currency hedging), risk management and company insurances, agreements and licenses
  • Analyse the financial climate and market trends to assist senior executives in creating strategic plans for the future
  • Assist in company-wide budgetary planning
  • Oversee, review, and adhere to the budgets and costings for each business department
  • Interpret complex financial information and provide updates and information as needed
  • Monitor cash flow, accounts, and other financial transactions
  • Supervise financial assistants and other employees in the facilitation of day-to-day operations, including tracking financial data, invoicing, payroll, etc.
  • Create management reporting and performance measuring practices
  • Seek out methods and practices to minimise financial risk
  • Contract auditing services to ensure financial monitoring is up-to-date
  • Create and maintain relationships with service providers and contractors, including banking institutions and accountants
  • Update and implement financial policies and procedures
  • IT strategy and security
  • Company secretary and formal director responsibilities
  • Cross border rules and regulation and legal

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Background in either manufacturing, food and beverage or FMCG
  • Must have the versatility and talent to be involved in decision making at a director level
  • Strong commercial acumen and evidence of input into helping to drive the growth agenda
  • Graduate calibre
  • ACA/FCA or ACCA/FCCA qualified
  • Track record of effectively leading and managing successful finance teams
  • Ability to work with a small management team to deliver business growth
  • Experience in an owner managed business is beneficial
  • Understanding of accountancy and data privacy standards
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and ability to influence internal and external stakeholders
  • Thorough understanding of business principles and practices
  • Superior attention to detail
  • Ability to deliver routine and ad hoc reports and projects to deadlines
  • Desire to improve systems and processes
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Successfully managed banking and shareholder relationships
  • IT literate
  • Excellent Excel and financial systems knowledge including Sage
