Chief Executive Officer
- £Attractive + bonus + benefits
- Bedford, Bedfordshire (GB)
The British Friendly Society (BFS/’The Society’) is a mutual insurance company with over 110 years’ experience of providing Income Protection insurance to their members. Based in Bedford, BFS is one of the larger UK Friendly Societies with circa £90m in assets. As a mutual they exist solely for the benefit of circa 27,000 members - the majority of which happen to be self-employed, blue-collar trade professionals -and have no shareholders to whom they need to pay dividends. BFS is dually regulated by both the Prudential Regulatory Authority (PRA) and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
BFS has grown rapidly over the past two years. There has been a continuation in the growth of membership and a strengthening in the Society’s financial position; this has allowed them to develop and diversify their product range, introduce a Mutual Benefits programme and start a key project to move to a new state of the art computer system. BFS remains well placed to be one of the fastest organically growing mutual insurers or Friendly Societies in the country.
The Society is looking to appoint a CEO who will continue to build upon BFS’ strong heritage and recent successes. Reporting to the Chairman, you will be instrumental in defining and implementing the company’s response to future challenges, change and opportunities whilst ensuring that forward momentum on financial viability and growth is maintained. Commercially highly astute and member orientated, you can demonstrate a successful track record as a business and people leader within the Financial Services sector having operated at CEO/Director level and/or having led a stand-alone business unit of comparable or larger size involving P&L ownership. You will have managed growth and delivered strong financial performance, bringing best practice knowledge from market leading, consumer driven financial services. You will be able to combine this with a comprehensive understanding of IFA distribution networks and other routes to market; current/previous protection market experience would be advantageous. Inspirational people leadership and attuned stakeholder management skills (i.e. understanding and appreciation of the role of a unitary Board and its interactions with the executive), will be paramount.
Any offer made to candidates is subject to approval by the regulatory authorities.
