Our client, an established consumer lending business is seeking an Interim Head of Compliance & Risk to lead their Compliance and Risk function. The role will shape and deliver the compliance strategy, ensuring full compliance with appropriate legislation and evolving UK regulations. The role will lead a team providing proactive and robust compliance advisory, policies, procedures, monitoring, assurance and oversight.

Reporting to the Head of Group Compliance, as the Head of Compliance & Risk you will deliver a high-quality compliance service to the business including advising, monitoring and reporting on the systems, controls, regulatory and policy guidelines, which underpin all core lending activities. Contributing to the development of the business, you will develop key stakeholder relationships with senior executives including the business MD's and C-level stakeholders, sharing knowledge and positioning compliance as a proactive partner. Most importantly, the role will lead, manage, structure and develop a team of 20 in a highly effective way. The team provides compliance advisory, monitoring and assurance, undertaking assurance monitoring reviews, preparing & delivering exception reports of findings and remediation where necessary.The role will also support the provision of an integrated approach to managing & monitoring compliance and regulatory risks. Additionally, you will undertake ad hoc and other themed reviews of their business, whilst contributing to group-wide compliance intelligence.

The ideal applicant will have a deep understanding of compliance with a background in consumer credit and retail banking. Specific experience of consumer lending would be preferred. Possessing proven leadership, team and project management capability, you will be able to balance strategic thinking with the appropriate attention to detail.Demonstrable engagement skills with the capacity to influence & challenge diverse stakeholders, adapting style as appropriate to the audience and communicating difficult messages with sensitivity will be key. The ability to formulate and present a clear business case as well as strong verbal & written presentation will also be important.Operating against a backdrop of regulatory change and dynamic market conditions, you will be comfortable managing competing and sometimes changing priorities.
