The Team

The Strategy and Corporate group works at the heart of the Communication and Marketing directorate, setting out the overall role for comms and marketing in the Department, producing the annual communications strategy, engaging both internal and external stakeholder audiences with that strategy and ensuring the whole directorate operates effectively.

Role Description

Working in External Affairs you will lead on all EU Exit activity. You will maintain a balanced and supportive climate of opinion to support DIT’s EU Exit communications objectives, focusing on engagement as we prepare to exit the EU. You will support the team to build allies and advocates, enhancing reputation and deepening engagement and collaboration. The role will report to the Head of External Affairs but will work alongside the EU Exit Communication team.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Working with the Head of External Affairs and EU Exit Communications team develop and deliver an external affairs engagement strategy that both supports central Government EU Exit External Affairs and DIT Departmental objectives
  • Continually build insight and map the stakeholder landscape deepening the Department’s understanding of EU Exit related issues, campaigns and views of key stakeholders to inform our activities
  • Support high profile forums and stakeholder events from working with cross-cutting business organisations to managing Ministerial events and roundtables
  • Provide EU Exit advice and support to colleagues in policy teams working on stakeholder engagement, building strong relationships with them, co-ordinating content, messages and ensuring join up across the department
  • Generate creative content and messages for stakeholders to disseminate through their channels and networks. You will work with policy, press office, PR and marketing teams to deliver content through multiple DIT channels.
  • Establish systems and processes to coordinate and share stakeholder data and intelligence
  • Build effective working relationships with EU Exit External Affairs colleagues in other Government departments, work closely with central Government ensuring DIT External Affairs are aligned and co-ordinated with the rest of Government
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on the effectiveness of EU Exit external affairs activities
