GAP are currently being retained to recruit what is an enviable Finance Director/CFO role based in Newcastle offering not only equity but also, a foundation to what is a great business! Operating within the service sector and retail space, the business has not only demonstrated growth by acquisition with its 2 recent acquisitions this year but also some impressive organic growth without being heavily leveraged and with a strong asset pool. With the hands-on support from one of the best PE houses in this field, the role of Finance Director/CFO will not only help define the three to four-year strategy but also support a hungry FC (ACA qualified) in their development and delivery of the accounting packs. The investment is seen more as a buy and build concept and hence the business is now well positioned to beef up their operations with an FD/CFO who will report to the CEO and operate almost like a co-pilot to a dynamic CEO in driving the business forward.

Make no mistake, this is not a role for the faint hearted and whilst the business already has a strong FC and finance function, the FD/CFO will occasionally be required to deliver a hands-on approach but on the majority will be operationally focused on growing the business. As well as being responsible for providing financial stewardship, and strategic direction to the board, the role will also take responsibility for the following tasks:

Responsibilities

  • Commercial financial modelling and delivery of this to non-financial stakeholders
  • Due diligence and investment appraisal
  • Overseeing preparation of P&L, Balance sheet and cash flows on a monthly basis for Board and investor purposes.
  • Overseeing production and analysis of year-end financial accounts
  • Reviewing, updating and implementing internal accounting processes and introducing new internal controls where appropriate.
  • Overseeing and monitoring all company expenditure and where appropriate, challenging budget holders to ensure better delivery of the numbers.
  • Work in partnership with operational and divisional heads by delivering a visible approach in helping the board not only run the business but deliver on set objectives.
  • Working closely with the MD and PE partners to develop strategic direction and champion a strong leadership team
  • Procurement and contract management
  • Leading a small, but highly competent finance team
  • Take ownership of the banking relationship including any future refinancing

Essentially, this role is targeting a qualified ACMA/ACA/ACCA accountant with post qualified experience. They must be able to demonstrate an ability to build strong collaborative relationships, possess good analytical, interpersonal leadership and communication skills and have past exposure and understanding of Private Equity backed businesses. At this level, it is also a given to be able to demonstrate decisiveness and sound judgement on a consistent basis.

The company has undergone significant internal change over the past 6-12 months, and there is now a need for a strong leader with vision, and great market awareness to join what is an exceptionally strong board team in achieving their objectives. Few challenges come with such a lucrative reward and equity option. Please get in touch immediately to learn more. Gifford and Partners are shortlisting this role now for interviews in the new year.
