Job Description

Strategy & Change:

  • Directorate Responsibilities: Attends senior staff meetings for the operations directorate and contributes to decision making; Provides papers and documentation for Trust Board level meetings as required
  • Information Services Strategy: Sets the strategy for Management information and Data in consultation with the team, service users, stakeholders and the Deputy CEO; Advises the Deputy CEO on the broader strategy for the directorate as required
  • Data Team Change Control and Project Management: Oversight of the change control & project management processes; Signs off and monitors all change requests delegating authority to managers when required; Ensures that all projects being managed by the Data team are established and run in a structured, controlled and efficient manner

Data Analysis & Reporting:

  • Oversee the work of the data management team in producing reliable, accurate and timely reports
  • Agree report design briefs with Directors from across the Trust
  • Oversee the operation of all management information systems, ensuring they operate reliably and effectively
  • Direct work to draw data from across the Trust into automated reporting systems and ensure feedback from data-service users is reflected in the future design
  • Identify resources to meet ad-hoc requirements for reporting across the Trust, delivering personally, via delegation to a team member or supporting the team directly

Service Quality:

  • Accountable for the quality of service from the data team to stakeholders, core team and schools, ensuring reliable processes are in place to fairly measure service quality
  • Monitors monthly/annual reports for service quality, identifies key points and trend
  • Intervenes and directly manages day to day work when required when service to a particular site has reached a point of serious concern
  • Ensures that team leaders praise good service and addresses underperformance by team members

Budgets, Procurement & Third Party Relationships:

  • Accountable for all budgets related to Data / MIS, keeping spending in line with budget and taking necessary actions as required if risk of overspend
  • Sets up the proposed budget for the area each year; ensures procurement is in line with the financial handbook
  • Point of contact for large information services related suppliers & partners, delegating and overseeing relations with others
  • Maintains an overview of our strategy for managing relationships with third parties to secure the best value, outcomes and reputation for the Trust

Team Management:

  • Identifies requirements for changes to teams (recruitment, reviewing roles, restructure etc.) and proposes them to the Deputy CEO. Implements agreed outcomes
  • Oversees the recruitment and induction of team members ensuring we appoint the best people and retain them
  • Ensure that the team have processes for meeting, coordinating their work, sharing practice and improving that are fit for purpose and are in operation in all parts of the team
  • Lead the team leaders within data team to help them be effective and act as a role model for good practice in management

Assimilation & Communication with New / Existing Sites and Schools:

  • Ensures the Data team are properly represented at meetings related to new sites and schools
  • Coordinates audits of provision in potential new schools, advise directors on implications and actions required should they join the Trust
  • Coordinates actions for Data Team during assimilation processes for new sites
  • Ensures important messages are communicated to schools in a coherent and effective way (via email, newsletters, presentations at meetings, social media and status messages
  • Sets the key messages and tone for the team to ensure there is a consistent approach and language
  • Ensures robust processes to gather feedback from staff, governors and leaders and any issues raised are addressed and communicated (coordinating with internal communications as appropriate)

Risk, Data Protection & Compliance:

  • DPO for the Trust and responsible for the delivery of the Data Protection policy, projects and processes; ensuring compliance with the Information Security Policy and that mitigation plans are in place
  • Engages actively with auditors, responding to queries as required, implementing actions of Trust Audit Committee as directed

The Successful Applicant:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, or management qualification or equivalent
  • Strong commercial acumen - the ability to translate organisational strategy into prioritised IT plans that deliver clear and measurable outcomes
  • High-power user of data-analysis tools (Power BI, Excel etc.)
  • A relationship builder with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Hands-on with the ability and willingness to work at an operational level to drive change and results
  • Proven expertise in managing a team and financial responsibility
  • Knowledge of Bromcom is desirable
