A world leading Logistics business is recruiting a Customs Compliance Manager to join their National Excise and Customs management team.

As Customs Compliance Manager you will be working as part of the UK Excise, Customs and International Trade function within Operations Excellence Dept., to manage DSC's compliance with HMRC Customs approvals, including AEO accreditation. You will be responsible with the development of UK Customs and cross-border traffic business in conjunction with DSC and DGF account teams by leveraging internal groups relationships for the best commercial / compliance balance and outcome for the business and the customer.

Key Responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Support compliance by ensuring all mandatory customs compliance functions are properly documented, owned and controlled
  • Support compliance staff by ensuring each has the right skills and resources to complete compliance tasks in a timely and accurate manner
  • Identify errors and exceptions, take appropriate and monitored action, and report them in context of Cause, Consequence & Countermeasure
  • Create written controls to a high standard, including scheduled audits and reporting tools
  • Conduct annual audits on customs functions to an agreed schedule as directed
  • Create Customs function training material and deliver training as directed
  • Liaise with site operations and monitor to ensure that customs controls are not compromised or circumvented
  • Support and mentoring of customs operatives / bond staff

Key skills and experience in this role will include:

  • Understanding of business application and compliance principles of Customs Procedures in the supply chain
  • Understanding of the essential elements of Customs legislation
  • Service performance results oriented
  • Implementation of Customs Procedures and Simplifications - inland and at the frontier - UK
  • Customs compliance audit management - transactional & process audit - Continuous Improvement
  • Staff supervision in a technical environment - Good training skills / written communication
  • Strong consultative and analytical skills - problem solving / process mapping / solutions design
  • Creativity and ability to develop novel ideas and solutions
  • Strong consultative and analytical skills
  • Clear & Concise written and oral communication skills
  • Recognised customs / international trade qualification desirable
  • Able to communicate and function at Management level with large companies
  • Ability to operate effectively in a consultant/advisory role and to develop strong business partnerships
