DIT is the international economic department responsible for bringing together policy, promotion and financial expertise to break down barriers to trade and investment and help businesses succeed, delivering a new trade policy framework for the UK as it leaves the EU. A growing, dynamic Ministerial Department at the heart of the UK’s relationship with the global economy, we have an outstanding opportunity for an exceptional individual to lead DIT’s Finance and Business Services functions. You will provide advice to the Permanent Secretary and the Department’s committees on all finance matters, develop strong working relationships with HM Treasury, and deliver critical Business Services that underpin the Department’s ways of working.

As the Head of Profession for the Finance Function, you will drive a step change in the capability of the function within DIT and in the wider financial management skills across the organisation.

Reporting into the Director General, Chief Operating Officer, you will be a visible leader, able to motivate and develop your teams at a fascinating, challenging time, to create a high performing, confident culture.

In this varied, high profile position, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing strategic and expert financial advice to the Executive Committee and its sub-committees and Departmental Board to support the development and implementation of DIT’s strategies and plans;
  • Leading the annual business planning process to ensure resources are appropriately prioritised and allocated to deliver agreed outcomes;
  • Developing and implementing DIT’s Shared Services and Estates strategies and responding to the changing needs of the Department;
  • Ensuring the department has appropriate governance and assurance frameworks in place and supporting the Accounting Officer and Audit, Risk & Assurance Committee to discharge their responsibilities effectively.

To succeed, you must be a professionally qualified accountant with a strong track record in strategic planning, influencing major business decisions and ensuring good governance within a large, complex organisation. You will have deep financial expertise and be proven in leading change and developing capability, whilst successfully navigating a political environment. You will have exceptional communication and influencing skills, allowing you to build sustainable and productive relationships with a range of stakeholders. As well as this, your inspiring, strong and visible leadership will enable you to develop a talented, diverse and engaged workforce.
