DIT is the international economic department responsible for bringing together policy, promotion and financial expertise to break down barriers to trade and investment and help businesses succeed, delivering a new trade policy framework for the UK as it leaves the EU. A growing Ministerial Department at the heart of the UK’s relationship with the global economy, we have an exciting opportunity for an exceptional Deputy Director, Financial Strategy to join the Finance Function.

Reporting into the Director of Finance and Business Services, you will work with Ministers, Senior Officials and colleagues across the Department to shape DIT’s long term financial plans and ensure they are sustainable. Managing a growing team incorporating Strategic Finance and Planning, Finance Business Partnering and Risk Management; your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading on the Department’s financial approach to fiscal events, working alongside strategy, policy and analyst colleagues to ensure high quality, value for money proposals;
  • Developing a robust and deliverable Medium Term Financial Plan and coordinating the annual Business Planning process, ensuring resources are allocated to meet key priorities;
  • Leading and developing an expanding team which provides insight to decision makers and supports strong financial management;
  • Being the finance key-holder for project business cases and responsible for driving a value for money culture;
  • Leading DIT’s approach to risk management and integrating it with financial and performance management.

To succeed, you must be a professionally qualified accountant (or equivalent experience) with a strong understanding of government or wider public service budgeting and financial planning. You will be an inspiring, strong and visible leader with outstanding communication skills and a track record of influencing major policy, project or commercial decisions.
