The Leathersellers’ Company is one of the ancient Livery Companies of the City of London, ranked fifteenth in the order of precedence. It was founded by Royal Charter in 1444 with authority to control the sale of leather within the City. The Company no longer has this regulatory role, and instead devotes its energies to support charities, education and the British leather trade. The principal business activity of the Company is to hold property and securities as investments for income and capital appreciation. The Company is responsible for more than £3m per annum of charitable grants and a livery that is diverse, socially responsible and thrives on fellowship.

The Company is now seeking to appoint an outstanding individual to the role of Chief Finance Officer. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall financial strategy of the Company, in accordance with the directions of the Court, and take responsibility for leading the finance team. The CFO will, as necessary, deputise for the Clerk of the Company and play a proactive role in the Company’s day-to-day leadership function.

The successful candidate will bring a track record of success in senior management roles with comparable financial responsibilities. They will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with a solid command of strategic finance including cash, planning, tax and debt finance. They will be an astute strategic thinker who is unafraid of ‘rolling up their sleeves’ and taking practical action. Alongside a commitment to high integrity and a consensual working manner, this person will have a strong empathy for the philanthropic mission, culture, and heritage of the Company.

An attractive package will be negotiated with the successful applicant.

The role will be based at Leathersellers’ Hall, 7 St Helen’s Place London, EC3A 6AB.
