The SFGB will replace the three existing providers of government-sponsored financial guidance - the Money Advice Service (MAS), the Pensions Advisory Service (TPAS) and Pension Wise - bringing together the provision of debt guidance, money guidance and pensions guidance to help “Change the Dial” in this country for Money, Debt and Pension guidance. This new, single body will provide an opportunity to deliver a more streamlined service to the public, providing easier access to the information and guidance people need to help them make effective financial decisions throughout their lives.  

The new organisation will be a NDPB (Non-Departmental Public Body) and will be overseen by the Chairman (Sir Hector Sants), the Chief Executive (John Govett) and a number of Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) and Executive Directors (EDs). The new body will have five core functions –pensions guidance, money guidance, debt advice, consumer protection and the strategic function – providing members of the public in England with information and advice on debt, money and pensions. The body will be primarily funded by levies on both the financial services industry and pension schemes. The Department for Work and Pensions will be the sponsor Department for the new body; though the body will also engage with the HM Treasury.

As Chief Operating Officer (COO) you will take day-to-day responsibility for operational performance and efficiency of the organisation. As part of the Board, you will help develop and deliver our overall strategy across; Pensions, Money and Debt guidance and firmly establish our leadership role in Financial Capability across the UK. The role will support the CEO and Executive team and will formulate longer term strategies and new, efficient ways of working that deliver high customer and staff satisfaction levels, and services that are seen by the Industry-Levy payers as value for money. 

The successful candidate will be the “Consumer Champion”, ensuring that all services are consumer focused, driving high customer satisfaction advocacy rates that meet the Board’s agreed vision, mission and values; along with achieving operationally agreed corporate plans and objectives. You will have extensive operational leadership experience and an established track record of leading large and complex organisations and diverse service offers at Board level. Ideally you thrive on driving successful operational delivery, for a range of complex services, bringing a strong track record of successfully interfacing with a variety of different teams and stakeholders, consistently delivering above expectations.
