UK Financial Controller
Our client is a Private Equity-backed, international business providing specialist products to over 16 million people in 14 countries. With a turnover in excess of £750m, the company has enjoyed consecutive annual growth over the last 15 years and continues its expansion both in the UK and in Europe. The company has over a hundred years of history with a broad range of products, but has specifically focussed on domestic products in more recent times. A market leader in their field in the UK, the strategy is to now roll out a similar model across Europe with a view to a likely exit event over the next two to three years.
As a result of some internal restructuring, we are now looking for a highly capable UK Financial Controller to report directly into the Group Financial Controller. You will be a key member of Group Financial Control leadership team, playing a critical role in broader development of the function, challenging the status quo of the processes and formalizing the documentation and controls framework. You will manage a team of experienced and qualified finance professionals, driving engagement and a culture of high performance and in turn be responsible for the delivery of timely, accurate financial information and analysis for the UK operating segment. You will oversee the month-end close process, critically reviewing results and variances and ensuring integrity of the number and present the results to Group finance, clearly documenting and articulating drivers for variances to budget, key accounting judgements, and opportunities and risks to the budget for the financial year. The UK Financial Controller will be key in supporting the Group budgeting and forecasting cycles, modelling the balance sheet and group cash flow. You will possess the ability to build strong relationships with external audit team, providing single point of ownership for audit delivery, driving efficiencies, and ensuring the process is managed to tight deadlines. In addition to your day to day duties, you will assist with ad hoc finance projects and provide support to Director of Corporate Finance including Solvency II and preparation of Corporation Tax computations and VAT / IPT returns.
The ideal candidate will be a graduate qualified accountant capable of engaging and delivering clear objectives that add value to the business as well as motivating and developing the team. You will have some proven experience of working and communicating effectively at all levels of the business including with the Group CFO and external advisors. You will need advanced Excel ability, clear written and oral communication skills and be a confident, self-starter with the gravitas to operate in a dynamic environment. In addition, you will need to possess good attention to detail, good judgment, logical decision making skills, and have a very hands-on approach.
