Chief Finance Officer

The University is looking to appoint a high calibre, proactive and forward-thinking Finance Leader, to play a key role in the University’s strategic development, driving financial and operational performance and promoting a ‘good business’ culture throughout the organisation.

In the context of this dynamic new landscape, the CFO’s role has become increasingly significant and important, and as a key member of the Senior Management Team and reporting to the Deputy Vice Chancellor Strategic Resources, will provide strategic finance leadership and will play a key role in guiding strategy and working closely with all areas of the University to deliver strategic outcomes.
The CFO will support the development of non-traditional income streams through robust business planning for international activities, new campus developments and different, more flexible ways of delivering the academic portfolio.
Balancing strategy and operations, the CFO will provide strong leadership to the Finance function, developing and sustaining a culture of high performance, accountability and customer service with clearly articulated and agreed goals.
The CFO will challenge the status quo in the planning and delivery of services, driving improvement and introducing new ways of working.
The CFO will continue to develop and embed a strong business partner culture between finance and academic and professional support areas, and to support and participate in decision-making in all financial matters across the University.
You will be a professionally Qualified Accountant who can evidence a successful and progressive career to date within complex and changing environments.
With the capability of operating at Board level, you will possess excellent technical finance skills and be a confident communicator with the ability to influence externally and internally across a multi-faceted organisation.
The successful candidate will be a strategic and clear thinker, adept at managing multiple priorities and demands. You will be able to demonstrate a track record of providing innovative solutions to issues, using digital capabilities where appropriate, and have natural aptitude in leading and working with a range of colleagues from many different disciplines, including academic and professional backgrounds.
The successful candidate will be able to balance a commercial perspective whilst supporting the university’s vision and be committed to USW’s core values.
