The Company:

Our client is an award-winning, unified communications provider based in Northern Ireland and mainland Britain. They are at the fore of driving connectivity, making them one of the fastest growing business communication companies in the UK today. Their range of products deliver a total service solution containing all the vital tools required to accomplish unified communications for businesses.

As part of their continued growth, they are soon to be invested in by a reputable private equity investor who will provide the financial backing for an ongoing buy and build strategy in both Ireland and Britain. 

The Role

There is already a very strong management team in place and the final hire for the team is a high calibre CFO who will bring a combination of high energy and Telecoms SME experience. The CFO will be much more than a ‘bean counter’ and will see themselves as a highly commercial support to the CEO in delivering the business’s ambitious plans. They will be unafraid to roll their sleeves up and will be a strong personality who will lead the finance function. 

The core elements of the role will include:

Delivery of growth plans and margin improvement in a Telecoms business

  • Constant focus on the key levers of growth in the plan, the actions required to deliver this growth, and monitoring of the business’s performance against this, identifying opportunities to out-perform wherever possible, engaging with people at all levels in the business
  • Proactive identification of opportunities for margin improvement
  • Assessment of sales and marketing, working alongside the CEO (and other members of the senior management team), refinement of the plan for future investment in this area to drive profit growth

Overall responsibility for the finance function

  • Direct responsibility for delivering all aspects of financial management, control, budgeting, planning and reporting, including tax
  • Preparation and presentation of high quality reporting to the Board and exec team; continued development of the business’s MI to aid management decision making and support delivery of the business plan. This will include forward-looking sales pipeline and forecasting information
  • Management, assessment and development of the existing finance team of ten people recruiting where necessary to ensure that there is a strong finance function to provide timely, high quality reporting both to monitor financial performance and inform strategy/opportunity
  • Responsibility for high-quality financial planning and budgeting processes to support the growth of the business whilst managing risk appropriately
  • Ultimate responsibility for the delivery of basic transaction processing and efficacy of the financial control environment
  • Effective free cash management considering bank and shareholder requirements
  • Ownership of all associated external advisor relationships (audit, tax, legal etc.) and management of audit process

Managing external stakeholder relationships

Management of relationships with key external stakeholders, including:

  • Banks: ensuring compliance with financial covenants and all other aspects associated with operating in a leveraged environment
  • Private equity sponsor: including provision of appropriate financial analysis on a timely basis

M&A and Integration

Managing all financial aspects of M&A activity including:

  • Financial analysis of potential acquisitions and their financial viability
  • Leading the acquisition financial process
  • Integrating the finance teams of future acquisitions

IT

  • Does not require an IT expert but the individual should be IT/technology literate
  • Will involve working alongside IT team to develop the use of technology in integrating finance teams and implementing Oracle Netsuite

The Person

Experience and qualifications

  • Successful experience of leading the finance function in a private equity or leveraged SME, including one or more successful exits
  • Background in the Telecoms sector
  • Involvement in the successful execution of a buy and build growth strategy, preferably within the Telecoms sector
  • Integration experience and proof of cost savings and improved efficiency
  • Successfully managed banking and investor relationships
  • Proven track record of leading a disparate finance function across multiple locations
  • Strong commercial acumen and evidence of input into helping to drive the growth agenda
  • IT literate
  • Strong academic background
  • Qualified ACA/equivalent

Package

The salary will be commensurate with experience but the package will consist of a low six figure base salary and equity participation too. Given the success of the business to date and the growth prospects, this is an opportunity for significant wealth creation.

Location

The candidate can be based anywhere in the UK but the role requires regular travel to Northern Ireland when required which could be as much as 2-3 days per week at times.
