This is a newly created role working for a business which has continued to expand rapidly through organic growth and acquisitions. Two acquisitions in March 2018 have doubled the EBITDA and increased their presence in America and Asia. The business is highly profitable and cash generative and has a headcount of approximately 2,800. The owners and management team have the funding, ambition and determination to drive the business forward towards an eventual exit in around three years. Likely exit scenarios include an IPO.

The Role:

As the Head of Financial Reporting you will be responsible for working across the company to ensure accuracy and efficiency in statutory reporting, helping in the preparation of the business for future sale. The company have a complex and constantly changing corporate structure due to its acquisitive nature and high levels of financial gearing. Acquisitions tend to include minority interests and put and call options further complicating the accounting particularly under IFRS. There will also be a need to review and improve current reporting processes. Drafting presentations (including for investors) will be part of the remit. 

The Head of Financial Reporting will take responsibility for the following areas:

  • Overseeing the preparation of statutory accounts for UK and overseas subsidiaries
  • Working with external auditors on completion of statutory accounts
  • Updating team on latest developments in IFRS and other relevant standards
  • Advising on accounting best practice and preparing procedures
  • Monitoring units against accounting manual and review of balance sheets
  • Controlling monthly consolidation of balance sheet and cash flow
  • Ad hoc presentations
  • Managing small team

Statutory Accounting

  • Overseeing the preparation of statutory accounts in the UK
  • Liaising with local accounting teams globally to ensure correct and timely preparation of subsidiary accounts
  • Ensuring that the business is following latest accounting standards
  • Being part of the team currently rationalising the legal entity structure
  • Working with external auditors on efficient preparation and filing of statutory accounts


  • Build on existing procedure documents to create a group accounting manual
  • Review practices against the group accounting manual
  • Oversee the review of month end balance sheets and reconciliations

Technical Accounting

  • Keeping up to date with latest standards and upcoming changes
  • Working with technical team to prepare documents on accounting treatment
  • Working with the wider group to implement best procedures are followed for financial reporting
  • Review current reporting to ensure compliance
  • Improving the statutory accounts process to be in line with listed company


  • Provide technical account support on M&A and disposals
  • Draft presentations to investors and other ad hoc reports
  • Assisting in the preparation of the business for onward sale
  • Support the potential refinancing of the SFA
  • Advising on contracts in relation to IFRS matters
  • Working with Workday ERP implementation team to ensure system is fit for statutory reporting
  • Assisting in setting up new entities globally

The Requirements:

  • Strong group consolidation skills
  • Qualified accountant, gained at large accounting firm
  • Significant PQE
  • Experience in M&A transactions, debt financing and reorganisations from a technical accounting perspective
  • Strong network in accounting practice
  • Experience of international companies with global footprint
  • Private equity experience a plus
