Chief Operating Officer

London

£200k+

When an entrepreneur named James Poole founded the firm that is now Carpmaels & Ransford back in 1776, he established a legacy that has shaped the world of intellectual property for over 200 years. Today, from its offices in London and Munich, Carpmaels & Ransford is a formidable presence in European intellectual property, acting on behalf of some of the world’s most innovative and successful companies.

The firm now seeks to appoint a new Chief Operating Officer, on the retirement of the current incumbent after 12 highly successful years, during which the firm has grown and changed. It is a role that involves interaction and influence at all levels across the firm and with this close knit all equity partnership.

Role

Through the initiation of strategic/executive projects, the role will be one of the driving forces behind the evolving culture of innovation and transformation, but its key focus is on successful delivery, evolution of the firm’s infrastructure and effective leadership of the business support teams.

The relationship with the partnership will be key: they will expect gravitas, insight, and commercial contribution, coupled with the energy and impetus to keep the firm’s plans moving on apace.

The appointee will lead and/or contribute fully to strategic discussions, constantly bringing to the debate insights into business leadership, operational implementation and, increasingly, transformation.

Person

Senior management experience most likely as part of the C-Suite, with a proven track record of positive results and a commitment to delivering service and value, influencing and supporting the overall direction of travel for and with the partners.

Experience of leadership and management of people, particularly in a partnership or professional environment - where astuteness credibility, judgement, imagination and enthusiasm are key.

Proven ability to “nudge” organisational structures to improve communication, efficiency and effectiveness and an understanding of the drivers of success in a professional services business.
