For 23 years, Railway Children has been fighting for vulnerable children living alone and at risk on the streets, where they suffer abuse and exploitation. They run away or are forced to leave homes where they suffer poverty, violence, abuse and neglect. They find themselves living on the streets because they have nowhere else to go and nobody to turn to. Every day we fight to change their story. Street children are abused, pimped, beaten, sold and trafficked. Abusers know exactly where to find them and how to lure them in. Once in their hands, most street children are lost forever. We're there to reach them first.
With projects in the UK, India and East Africa, we aim to reach these children as soon as they arrive on the streets and intervene before an abuser can. We create and enable sustainable change for children living on the streets. Railway Children has grown rapidly over the past ten years and now helps thousands of children every year. We have ambitious plans to expand further to help protect even more children. We are also in a period of considerable change as we grow and diversify.
We have a strong management team both in the UK head office and in the operations in India, East Africa and the UK. We have long term funding provided by a number of organisations and benefit from an excellent relationship with the UK rail industry that provides us with both money, time and overall assistance in what we do.
We are looking for Trustees with strong strategic and an analytical and evaluative approach to decision making, who are clear and sensitive communicators, able to engage and influence and manage difficult and challenging situations. We are committed to improving diversity (in every sense) on the board.
We are now recruiting two Trustees with distinct skills and experience:
Chair of Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEAL) Committee
- Senior strategic leadership experience in the charity sector or similar
- Previous Trustee experience
- Experience in the effective oversight and governance of projects and programmes
- Experience of delivering complex programmes of work and measuring impact
- Experience and understanding of safeguarding within an international context
- International experience
Trustee - Marketing, Communications, Brand or Digital
- Senior level experience in Marketing, Communications, Brand or Digital
