Commercial and Finance Director
Epilepsy Society is the UK’s largest and leading provider of epilepsy services. Through our cutting edge research, awareness campaigns, information resources and expert care, we work for everyone affected by epilepsy in the UK. Through close partnerships with University College London, Institute of Neurology and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, the Society has pioneered innovative research which brings the hope of a cure for epilepsy closer. Our research centre was nominated as the top epilepsy research centre in the world, and our medical director, Professor Ley Sander, was ranked as the world's leading expert on epilepsy. We have six residential services and one that also provides nursing care for people with epilepsy, including people with complex epilepsy and associated conditions such as learning disabilities.
With a relatively new Chief Executive and Chair, this is an exciting time to join Epilepsy Society as we expand our ambitions for the organisation. We generate a healthy annual income of around £17m, but there is a focus on substantially growing reserves and income to further increase the Society’s impact for such an important cause. With an exciting research project underway, in addition to the excellent work Epilepsy Society already does in caring for, advising and advocating for those with epilepsy, this is a chance to make a real contribution to an important cause.
Epilepsy Society wishes to appoint an outstanding Commercial and Finance Director to lead its finance, contracting, governance & compliance and IT functions. Reporting to and working closely with the Chief Executive and other senior directors, this individual will be key to the commercial and financial health of the charity, guiding its complex commercial relationships with key research partners in academia, the NHS and the private sector, ensuring the quality of contracting processes that are central in any commercially sophisticated organisation. This Director will lead and co-ordinate strategic, operational and financial planning so the organisation works as successfully internally as it is impactful externally. Relevant candidates will have strong credentials as leaders within substantial finance functions where the negotiation and management of contractual relationships have been central to the role. They will have delivered positive change through supporting commercial decision making and building financial rigour. Their demonstrable experience of leadership will likely include delivery of change and of working successfully with colleagues who have limited financial experience. Whilst experience in the health and/or care sectors may be helpful, Epilepsy Society’s priority in this appointment is to attract an individual with the seniority and capacity to establish the financial and commercial rigour of the Society as it seeks to maximise its future opportunities.
