General Counsel and Solicitor
HR Revenue & Customs is one of the UK's biggest organisations, collecting over £600 billion per year from 50 million personal and business customers. The Solicitor's Office and Legal Services (SOLS) provides expert legal, tax review and litigation services to support the delivery of HMRC's services.
As General Counsel and Solicitor for HMRC, you will be responsible for the work of over 1250 staff, and £82m budget that make up the Solicitor’s Office and Legal Services group. The role offers the exciting opportunity to lead the HMRC Solicitor’s Office and Legal Services (SOLS); Managing a broad range of litigation cases, the current value of which amounts to approximately £35bn.
We are looking for a senior lawyer with outstanding leadership skills, extensive senior management experience and the capability to lead a large and complex legal and operational function.
You will be a key player in ensuring that HMRC’s ambitions and outcomes are supported by a sound and effective legal framework, including in relation to Brexit, and that SOLS is respected and influential both within HMRC and across the civil service.
